Planetary Formation
Caltech's efforts in planetary science include the formation of planets. Geoff Blake studies planetary disks, Konstantin Batygin models accretion and early dynamical processes, Dave Stevenson studies planetary differentiation and the role of giant impacts in planet evolution. Our colleague in the Geochemistry option, Francois Tissot, uses high-precision isotopes to study nucleosynthetic anomalies, chondrule formation, and mixing in the early solar system.
