Interiors & Dynamics
Dave Stevenson's research includes work on interior structure, formation and evolution of planets (both solid and fluid) and satellites. Konstantin Batygin is involved in a wide range of theoretical dynamics and interiors research, including work with Mike Brown to identify a possible Planet Nine in the far reaches of the outer solar system.
Elsewhere in the Division, Jennifer Jackson's work on materials at high pressure has application to many planetary bodies, Paul Asimow studies shock pressures and conditions in planetary mantles, and Mark Simons studies surface deformation with radar. Our colleagues in Astronomy & Astrophysics, in this area include Gregg Hallinan, who studies magnetic field generation, and Jim Fuller, whose work includes planetary physics related to rings, tides, and planetary interiors.
