On October 21 at 10:21 a.m., businesses, nonprofits, schools, governments, neighborhoods, organizations, families, and others throughout the state will practice the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" protocol as part of the Great California ShakeOut statewide earthquake drill.
The ShakeOut was created to help people and organizations become better prepared for the next big earthquake by encouraging practice in self-protection during such an event. It takes just one minute to perform this simple drill, and it's not too late for your member businesses to participate!
All departments are invited to conduct a "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" drill at 10:21 a.m. on October 21. An audio and video "drill broadcast" that you can play to simulate the sound of the earthquake you are responding to is available at the ShakeOut website. Posters, fliers, and drill manuals are also available.
More than 7.1 million Californians have currently registered to participate, including many in the Caltech community. You are encouraged to register your personal participation at ShakeOut.org to receive information, to be counted in the overall total, and to be listed as a participant.
