Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) was established in 2016 by President Rosenbaum to support a more diverse and inclusive postdoctoral community at Caltech. The program prioritizes new postdocs who are not yet on campus.  Fellows are selected through a competitive review process and will receive up to $90,000 in funding (up to $45,000/year for two years for stipend and benefits). The remainder of their funding is to be provided by a combination of advisor or other support, including external fellowships.

In 2023, with support from The Kavli Foundation, Caltech established the Kavli-Caltech Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship. Embedded within the broader PPFP, this fellowship provides $90K/year for two years for salary and benefits to support fellows working in nanoscience with faculty affiliates of the Kavli Nanoscience Institute.

The PPFP supports 12 fellows on campus, with approximately 6 appointments made each year. Applications will be reviewed twice a year; the 2025 deadlines are:
