Protoplanetary Disks
Eugene Chiang, Professor, Department of Astronomy, UC Berkeley,

Abstract: Disks surrounding pre-main-sequence stars are the birthplaces of planets. We review progress on our understanding of how disks accrete, either by magnetic or gravitational torques; how planets interact with disks; and how dust concentrates in disks to form the first-generation planetesimals. Attention will be paid to transitional disks having large inner cavities.
