Active Microwave Sensing of Planetary Surfaces
Charles Elachi, Professor Emeritus, Caltech,
Active microwave sensors are playing a large role in providing scientific information about Earth and the planets ranging from mapping surface topography, morphology, and dynamics resulting from natural and human activity to mapping of planetary subsurface structure. Active microwave sensors are or were part of a dozen missions exploring Titan, Saturn rings, Mars, Venus as well as our own planet. This seminar will cover an overview of the different techniques used and scientific results acquired with active microwave sensors as well as future planned and potential active microwave sensors.
